What if conflict is not simply a problem to be eliminated, but a part of social and political life that we need to learn how to navigate?
Created and hosted by Dr İdil Elveriş, Anlaşabiliriz – We Can Find A Way is a bilingual podcast exploring how conflicts emerge, evolve and are addressed from disagreements in everyday life and workplaces to community tensions and international disputes.
Through conversations with practitioners, researchers and experts, the podcast introduces different approaches to negotiation, mediation and restorative justice. Rather than looking only for quick solutions, it asks what makes dialogue possible when interests, experiences and perspectives diverge.
This is also where the podcast intersects with cultural diplomacy. Dialogue depends not only on formal institutions or negotiating tables, but also on listening, cultural and contextual understanding, trust and the ability to sustain relationships across disagreement.
Two recent episodes illustrate this range. Timur Söylemez, mediator and former diplomat, looks back at Türkiye’s long experience of international mediation and considers why conflicting parties choose particular countries or individuals as intermediaries.
In another episode, policy analyst and researcher Özge Genç examines the changing relationship between war, ceasefire, negotiation and peace. Her discussion moves from contemporary conflict-management approaches to Türkiye’s Kurdish peace process and Türkiye Armenia normalisation, highlighting the roles of political representation, law, regional security, historical memory and societal trust.
Together, these conversations suggest that peace is not simply the moment when conflict ends. It is also a process of creating the institutions, relationships and practices that allow disagreement to be addressed without closing the possibility of dialogue.
We Can Find A Way invites us to look more closely at that space between conflict and agreement - a space where much of diplomacy happens.
